I have been working for five years now and still I have not got a chance to do any real assingment. My manager and the team are much senior and they think that young people are of no use. I am just made to do some basic stuff that makes me feel dumb.

I have joined the company only 5 years back and till now I am happy with my work here. They took me directly from college and since then I have gathered quite a deal of work experiance in different areas. True some of the projects were very uninteresting still there were others that were hihgly challenging. But the salary is something to worry. It is quite low compaired to others in the market.

Accenture is not a good place to start your career and this mistake is taking away all the prospects of me having a future. The bureaucracy here is simply killing and there are hundreds of protocols for everything. On top that there are so many old guys working here that new recruits like me are somewhere deep down the ladder. From what I have understood from everyone working here that due to this problem promotions are extremely difficult to come by. I have no interest to remain stuck and have started looking for a new job.

Accenture has the best people to work with, hands down. I have worked at other companies and this one has and keeps the best out there. Overall, the employees are smart, competent, etc., but also fun to be around and hang out with outside of work. Compensation and benefits may be a little lower than some others, but overall a great place to be. If traveling is not your gig, then Consulting might not be the right place (regardless of company).

Accenture is well run; listen to an earnings call to verify. We're coming off of our best year ever (even in a declining global economy). Compensation is great if you are a high performer, and we have more PTO than in other industries. We are a global company, the largest consulting company in the world, with lots of opportunities to work with different people in different industries learning different things.
The work/life is different here than other industries; it's just the nature of the business that we travel and are away from our home, and that's what you are signing up for when you get hired. At the same time, travel rewards and flexible weekend trips provide great leisure opportunities as well as seeing friends that live far from home. As for the long hours, I have been through phases where I worked 60-80 hours a week, pulled all nighters, but for the most part I work 8 to 630 every day, departing earlier on Fridays . We do seem to attract a large amount of whiners (like the ones on this board) with expectations that they deserve 20% annual raises for working 40 hours a week, but they tend to vent anonymously via online venues. As for layoffs, we always manage our bench; with an up or out policy; in poor economies our criteria for who stays gets more strict.

this is a different DC from NY but as far as we can see it, we can relate to your pains. there has been several laying off that has occured in the past 2 months. others are taking the initiative and leaving before they can be layed-off. we have a 5-day workweek 8 hours per day, but everybody knows its a joke. you cant possibly finish your work in 8 hours, the amount of worked they demand delivered must be done by 2 persons in 12 hours. they dont care about the employees, rather all they want is the client's satisfaction, as it reflects on them. it doesn't matter if it kills you as long as accenture gets the clients thumbsup. they'd kiss ass anytime.its rather common to see some co-employee being rushed to the hospital due to over fatigue or for some other work related loss of consciousness. our compensation is high, but the workload deserves more than just 1 person. there is no overtime fee, but they make it a point that it's YOUR initiative to do overtime everyday, since its a core value or something. last time i checked only the higher levels are benefiting from the labor of my fellowmen.

These guys are not incorporated in NY, they're incorporated in Bermuda and they act like a foreign company. Since I've worked for them they've laid off about 200 of my friends in the US and they make me work pretty much 24 hours a day on midnight conference calls with the people in India. I got a notice that they have canceled the pension plan for new hires after 2007. They have not given any real raises in about 3 years, even for people who were rated "exceeds". And the people in India that work on the systems here don't know what they are doing. We keep having big outages due to the incompetence, and all the USA people have to fix the problems, working pretty much every weekend and getting calls every night. My client is sooooooo unhappy with Accenture here, I'll be amazed if they get to keep this contract. Actually, I'll be amazed if I get to keep my job, they announced a new round of layoffs coming next month. I never wanted to work for Accenture, they just bought out our whole IT group as part of our company's outsourcing deal, and now they've fired most of us, and replaced us with a bunch of Indians offshore that have no idea what they're doing.
Accenture is a nightmare. I'm glad I'm young, I'd hate to be one of the more senior guys who are all getting laid off before they reach retirement age.

There are positive as well as negative things about working at Accenture but unfortunately in the recent years the bad things are beginning to take over. The company is not moving with the times and the management needs to wake up to the fact that nowadays every company is trying to make the life of their employees comfortable. The pay structure needs to be revised and I would be happy to get a better benefit package in the future. Most of my coworkers are tired of the conditions here and fail to give their best to their work.

Accenture is a company which is yet to realize the benefits of giving its employees a chance to maintain work life balance. The work hours are too much for anyone with or without a family because though I am yet unmarried I too need time to unwind and relax at the end of a hard day of work. Either I am working late at my office or I am off to some far-away place for unending series of meetings with some client. In the last six months I did not get any break and my boss keeps rejecting all my leave applications just because she has a family and does not want to travel.
